9. The Petite Advantage Diet: Achieve That Long, Lean Look. The Specialized Plan for Women 5’4″ and Under

List Price: $25.99
Price: $15.51
You Save: $10.48 (40%)

They make clothes for “Petites” so why not a specialized diet plan? You’re smaller, you’re more delicate, you’re 5’4″ or under, yet you’re expected to follow a diet plan for the taller girls. What’s wrong with that?

“A lot,” says Jim Karas, author of the number one New York Times bestseller The Business Plan for the Body. For over twenty years, Karas has helped the Petites. He makes them longer (without the rack). He makes them leaner (without starving) and he makes them feel more confident and sexier than they have ever felt before. Why? Because he knows how to get results specifically for you . . . a “Petite”. . . and get them fast.

“I understand you,” says Karas. “I know you are watching your taller friends and colleagues eat more than you do but stay slim.” Fact: you do have to eat less, because a Petite needs only about 1,600 calories a day (compared to 2,500 calories for a taller woman) and is therefore naturally more prone to gain weight.

But you are looking at the glass only as half empty. Thee glass, according to Karas, is really half full. Being a Petite has huge advantages such as:

  • You can work out more effectively than a taller woman because your muscle-to-height ratio is greater; translation—better opportunity to boost your metabolism
  • Your center of gravity is lower, and therefore you are less likely to injure yourself when you’re working out, and
  • You can create that sexy hour-glass figure that taller women can’t achieve. Think Penelope Cruz (5’4”) and Dolly Parton (5’0”). Both are gorgeous members of “The Petites,” whose bodies rock.

Karas has worked with women of all heights and sizes for more than twenty years, and has perfected strategies that bring effective and lasting fat loss for Petites. Based on solid, recent research, coupled with his passion for creating concrete solutions, Karas has crafted a program specially designed to help you create a longer, leaner, sexier body. Petites, you’re gonna love it!

  1. Ten months ago I started a low cholesterol diet. I dropped all meat except for fish. I lost 17 pounds in three months. My A1c was better along with my blood pressure and cholesterol. Then I saw Dr. Barnard on PBS. I bought The Get Healthy, Go Vegan Cookbook and dropped fish from my diet, too. I lowered the amount of olive oil I use and followed his recommendations. As of last week, I have lost 24 pounds. I am always satisfied and full. My blood pressure is 122/60, my A1c is 6.5 and my cholesterol is great. My doctor told me if she did a “patient of the year”, my picture would be on her wall. I have energy and I look so much better – I’m told this all the time now. He changed my life – he actually saved my life. Thank you Dr. Barnard and Amazon, too!

  2. Over the holidays I was bemoaning my weight gain and checking around to join a fitness club with visions of running and spinning and cardioing into shape. And, spending even more money to have a trainer. Then I was looking for a new fiction novel to read and happened upon this non-fiction book, The Petite Advantage Diet. Since I’m 5’2 and have always been pear shaped, this book grabbed my attention. Those of you who read the sample, or just the reviews and think it’s a bunch of hooey, need to read all that he says, not just what some PR person is throwing out there to catch your attention. Saying “no cardio” definitely catches peoples attention, but when you read the book, he does say any exercise that pounds and strains your muscles, like running isn’t good for you. 39 out 100 marathon runners get hurt. Granted that’s an extreme sport, but a pretty significant injury rate in my mind. And, to his point, you don’t need to run a marathon to get your heart rate up. He definitely is for increasing the heart rate, and doing it at the same time you are building lean muscle. I’ve just started the gravity straps and getting used to it, but basically, his exercise program reminds me of Jack Lalane exercises when I was a little girl. The 21 day menu also resonated for me. I really needed some new low cal recipes and new ways of combining foods. So far I am into Day 9 as of January 9th (yep new years resolution). If you want to see some reviews of the recipes, I’m blogging about my progress at http://www.mypetitediet.blogspot.com. Bottom line, regardless of what size you are, understanding how to rev up your metabolism, especially if you are post-menopause, is invaluable. This book popped up at the right time for me to make the right changes to lose weight. I highly recommend reading it.

  3. Carb Cycling has been my go to technique for getting myself and my clients lean and sexy. This book offers great insight on how carb cycling works and how to get started with it. It also contains information on how and when to exercise while carb cycling. Definitely recommend this book to someone that wants to get started with Carb Cycling.

  4. For almost 3 years now I have been handing the I Can Make You Thin book and ‘mind-reprogramming’ CD to every patient who comes to me to lose weight, or who is caught up in the mentality of diets, scales, cravings, or overeating.

I am *delighted* that this version of “I Can Make You Thin” is finally available on Amazon.com rather than having to hunt it from the UK site. The long wait is over!

At the risk of making this book seem too simple, here are Paul McKenna’s 4 golden rules…
    1. When you are hungry, eat.
    2. Eat what you want (not what you think you “should”.)
    3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful.
    4. When you are full stop.

I’ve seen other “I Can Make You Thin” reviews that dismiss the 4 rules as just obvious common sense. I’m not sure what common sense they can really mean since the rules make a mockery of the majority of get thin / lose weight approaches around. Rule 2 in particular certainly disagrees with the ‘common sense’ that I was taught as a medical doctor.

Even if the rules are common sense, McKenna needs to be given great credit for showing people HOW to live these habits. Hopefully you are buying this for the results, not just to have a fun read and a relaxing, new-wavy listen.

Yes, the coverpages are a bit hypey, but the inside is less so. The book is refreshingly thin :), jargon-free, and entertaining.

McKenna’s style also involves techniques such as tapping (TFT/EFT), hypnosis and NLP . Hypnosis is what first made Paul famous, and I’ve seen NLP Practitioners review this and say they knew all of these tricks before. In NLP terms Paul is saying that the Golden Rules are the “model” for being “naturally thin”. Just knowing all the geewiz psych techniques won’t help if you have the wrong model as I suspect most NLPers do.

More importantly, you don’t need any of these techniques to apply the 4 golden rules and lose weight.

Most people can go the book & CD, discover the Aha moments, and get started on transforming their relationship with food and their weight straight away.

There might be a group of people that could eat according to the 4 rules and not be thin, but I agree with what Paul says. For myself, I’m yet to meet such a person.

I have counseled people who thought it didn’t work for them, but it turned out they hadn’t gotten the rules into their behavior, so here are some extra pointers…

    – Just listening to the CD over and over doesn’t seem to be enough. The book plays a big part too. Expect to re-read the book at least once. You can succeed without the CD, so if it doesn’t suit you, no sweat.

    – Don’t add more rules. Extra rules almost always conflict with the four golden rules. Must eat breakfast? No. Just eat when you are hungry. Have to eat only fresh food? Check you really want to eat it, and whether you might want to eat anything else a bit more. Etc, etc.

    – Having trouble visualizing? Just act ‘as if’ you are visualizing, or on the CD just leave it to Paul.

    – Don’t make exercise the focus. Improved fitness will improve your chances of living longer, but unfortunately the best research evidence is that exercise doesn’t help much in losing weight. Keep to the four rules, which are all about food and getting back in control.

    – If you have a question or a difficulty, the answer is somewhere in the book. The book alone truly is comprehensive (unlike watching YouTube videos or reading this review.) Indeed the updates have covered the two or three remaining gaps I had found before, including the extra information for self-sabotage issues.

In summary, McKenna is not the only person to propose this way of eating, but his is the most accessible version I know about. His is also the most likely to reach out from the page and permanently change your thinking and your behavior, and thereby your weight.

You can buy his measly book just to prove Paul wrong 🙂

Oh and then come back here and add your own review. Let people know what your results have been, whatever they are. No one book/CD can fit everyone but “I Can Make You Thin” deserves way more reviews here on Amazon from people just like you who have been wondering if this might just be what you need.

  5. I highly recommend this book–in printed form, not Kindle. I bought it for my Kindle, and it’s just not formatted well. Testimonials interrupt the flow of the main text in ways that are confusing; the formatting makes it look like a new section, then you return to the original flow of information without warning. I have to backtrack too often. Also, there are many references in the text to specific pages for further information, which can be useful if you are pursuing a particular topic. However, the page references are useless on the Kindle (unless there is a way to find a particular page number that would correspond to the printed copy location). So if I want to find these pages, I’m searching randomly or using the search field, which is not efficient, since the key words are repeated everywhere.

In addition, it’s just not easy to page through the recipes or go directly to them when you need them. The Kindle doesn’t work as a cook book for me.

An author friend of mine who writes self-help books stated Kindle is not a good format for that type of book, especially when they are not written linearly. I love my Kindle for its convenience and breadth, but I wasted my money on this title. I have to spend more to get the paper copy. Grrrr.

  6. I think overall The Game On! Diet is a very creative approach to dieting. Anyone who likes a challenge and/or needs a competition to keep them motivated will find this approach worth trying. I have been using it as an exercise only challenge – and it works. However, all teams must be competitive or the momentum is lost. As a diet approach I find this refreshing and fun. If you are stuck – it is worth getting this book and trying this approach. It might be just what you need to get motivated, stay motivated, and keep on track.

    However, my main complaint is the book itself – well the writing style and the use of profanity. It isn’t necessary to use the F word so often in this text. It is a real turn off and does not add anything to the content. At times I wanted to put the book down just so I didn’t have to be exposed to the profane language. I also have friends that will not read the book because of this – and thus will not work with me on a challenge. {sigh}

  7. I’ve been familiar with paleo-lifestyle for about a year now. I recently heard of Mark on an episode of the Lew Rockwell Show.

Wiki: “Mark Sisson is an American fitness author and blogger, and a former distance runner, triathlete and Ironman competitor. Sisson finished 4th in the February 1982 Ironman World Championship.”

I agree with most things in the book and have shifted my eating habits in his direction. I thought the book was informative, easy to read, but way too fluffy. I didn’t like the fact that the book exceeded 200+ pages for the content presented. I feel like you could have understood everything in the book by just reading a few articles and in less time.

The book could have been easily trimmed to 100 pages.

Though, if you aren’t familiar with the primal lifestyle then this is a good book to get started.

Mark presents an exercise routine and some dietary guidelines which I liked.

  8. The diet itself is amazing and easy, but to find a guide to make it even easier….incredible. The hints and charts in the guide saved time and frustration. I would suggest this guide for anyone even thinking about trying the HCG, because it not only explains everything in a way that anyone can understand, but it also goes a little further and tells you what may or may not be okay. The diet made my life better and the guide made my life easier! I lost 25 pounds on the HCG diet and am getting ready to start a 2nd round and the guide will be at my side the entire time! BUY IT!

  9. I read the Tracy Anderson’s 30-Day Method book in one day. After receiving motivational encouragement from Tracy, I decided to commit.
    Pros:
    It’s been 3 days and I’ve lost 3 lbs.
I like the idea of switching up the routine every 10 days.
The meals are not hard to cook (look at my cons for the rest of the menu)
    It’s ONLY 30 days!
    Cons:
Cardio is VERY repetitve. I turn on different music so I can finish the 40 minutes.
1 1/2 hours to work out is long. I schedule it in. I am dripping with sweat after!
Meal plan is hard to follow. Lots of ingredients. I modify the menu by picking and choosing the meals that appeal to me.
No wine- I still have my glass of wine!
I am glad I bought it and am motivated to continue.

  10. Charles D’Angelo’s “Think and Grow Thin” is an outstanding resource for those who are serious about wanting to lose weight and improve their health. Charles’ personal story will touch and inspire you and his practical strategies will help you achieve your goal. He has a great style of writing – very engaging – and the book is filled with strategies, success stories, menu plans, recipes, and exercise tips. Most importantly, his approach will change the way you THINK about food. I have two good friends who have been successful working with Charles – both lost over 70 pounds. I had just about given up hope of ever losing this weight. BUT I’ve been following Charles’ plan just over 12 weeks and have lost 40 pounds (halfway to my goal!) I highly recommend this book and his plan for anyone who wants to lose weight. It works!
